A Holistic Approach to Women's Health

At Elara Women's Health, our naturopath provides complementary care that recognises the body as an interconnected network. We take the time to understand the broader picture of your health, exploring how lifestyle, environment, and individual circumstances influence your wellbeing.

Our naturopathic care is evidence-informed, individualised, and designed to work collaboratively alongside conventional medical care—supporting you to achieve optimal health across all life stages.

Our Naturopathic Approach

A naturopath works from a whole-person, systems-based perspective, recognising the body as an interconnected network. Under this approach, symptoms are viewed in context, acknowledging that changes in one area of the body, lifestyle, or environment may influence function elsewhere biologically.

Naturopathic care involves taking the time to understand the broader picture of a person's health. This includes exploring factors such as occupation, environmental exposures, current stressors, diet, sleep, movement, and daily habits, alongside medical history. The aim is to identify patterns that may be contributing to reduced physiological resilience or suboptimal function.

Our naturopath's clinical approach places particular emphasis on hormones, metabolic health, circadian rhythm, and lifestyle factors that influence how the body adapts to stress across different life stages. Attention is also given to supporting mitochondrial function—the cellular systems responsible for energy production—as part of a broader, systems-based approach to health.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

Your initial consultation may include discussion of:

  • Family health history: Understanding genetic and familial patterns
  • Early life factors: Influences that may affect current health
  • Medications and supplements: Current treatments and potential interactions
  • Reproductive and hormonal history: Menstrual patterns, pregnancies, hormonal transitions
  • Diet and lifestyle practices: Nutrition, movement, sleep, and daily habits
  • Relevant psychosocial influences: Stress, work demands, relationships, and environment
  • Physical examination: Where appropriate to support assessment
  • Functional or naturopathic testing: When indicated to support a deeper understanding

Understanding Naturopathic Testing

Any naturopathic testing recommended is used to assess physiological function and support preventative or optimisation-focused care rather than to diagnose disease. For this reason, some of these tests are not covered by Medicare.

Findings are interpreted within an evidence-informed framework and, where relevant, integrated with existing medical investigations to support collaborative care alongside medical practitioners.

Initial consultations are typically longer (about 1 hour) to allow for a detailed case history and a comprehensive understanding of your health.

Care is individualised and designed to work alongside conventional medical care, with the shared goal of supporting long-term health, function, and quality of life.

Clinical Focus Areas

Our naturopath has over two decades of experience supporting women through various health challenges, with particular expertise in hormonal health, reproductive conditions, and life stage transitions.

Care may include herbal medicine, nutritional therapies, dietary guidance, lifestyle strategies, and education—all delivered in coordination with your medical team to ensure safe, integrated care.

Areas of Support

Menopause

Menopause is defined retrospectively after 12 consecutive months without menstruation and represents a natural life stage experienced by all women. Common symptoms may include hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, palpitations, and changes in connective tissues and mucous membranes.

Throughout history, women have turned to plants as part of their healthcare during times of hormonal transition, including menopause. These practices were often shared between women and embedded in cultural traditions that recognised menopause as a significant physiological transition rather than an illness.

Contemporary naturopathic care draws on this historical context while also integrating current scientific understanding. Attention is given to circadian rhythm, environment, and lifestyle factors that influence how women experience this transition, ensuring that any herbal support is appropriate, individualised, and used alongside conventional medical care where indicated.

Perimenopause

Perimenopause refers to the transitional phase leading up to the final menstrual period and can begin from the mid-30s onward. During this time, symptoms may occur even when standard hormonal blood tests remain within reference ranges.

From a naturopathic perspective, perimenopause is approached similarly to menopause, with individualised herbal, nutritional, and lifestyle strategies. Circadian rhythm support and discussion of additional lifestyle tools may also be included to support a steadier hormonal transition.

Our naturopath works collaboratively with your medical team to ensure that care is coordinated, safe, and aligned with your overall health goals during this important life stage.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a common condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus and pelvic cavity, and sometimes in other areas of the body. This tissue continues to respond to reproductive hormones and may contribute to symptoms such as pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), and infertility.

Many women with endometriosis or chronic pelvic pain seek to explore how complementary approaches may support their overall care. From a naturopathic perspective, support may include herbal and nutritional therapies alongside dietary and lifestyle guidance, delivered in coordination with medical management.

Pelvic and Menstrual Pain

Depending on the severity of symptoms and the subtype of endometriosis, herbal medicine and nutritional strategies may be considered to support pain modulation and inflammatory signaling pathways. Herbs contain a range of bioactive compounds that can act across multiple pathways and may be used as a standalone approach in mild to moderate pain, or as an adjunct where symptom control is incomplete with conventional pain management alone.

Fatigue

Fatigue may be influenced by a range of factors, including heavy menstrual blood loss and low iron stores. In endometriosis, iron support needs to be carefully balanced, as excess iron may contribute to oxidative stress, which can influence inflammatory processes. A naturopathic approach considers mitochondrial function, nutritional adequacy, and lifestyle factors, alongside practical dietary strategies to support energy levels.

Heavy Periods (Menorrhagia)

Menorrhagia is defined as excessive menstrual bleeding occurring at regular intervals or bleeding lasting longer than seven days. Certain herbs and nutrients may be used to support uterine tissue integrity, vascular health, and regulation of menstrual flow. Dietary guidance may also be provided to support this aspect of reproductive health.

Infertility Support

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse. According to the World Health Organisation, approximately 17.5% of adults worldwide—around 1 in 6 people—experience infertility at some point in their lives.

Our naturopath has supported individuals and couples for over two decades in this area, focusing on dietary and lifestyle adjustments, herbal medicine, nutritional support, cycle awareness, and stress management strategies.

Personalised Approach: Couples are offered the opportunity to discuss available options through a short discovery appointment before committing to any fertility program. This allows you to understand the naturopathic approach, ask questions, and determine if this type of support aligns with your needs and goals.

Care is always delivered in coordination with your fertility specialist or medical team to ensure comprehensive, integrated support throughout your fertility journey.
