Combined Oral Contraceptive Pill
The combined oral contraceptive pill may be a great option at all stages of reproductive life and as a management strategy for endometriosis, heavy menstrual bleeding, polycystic ovarian syndrome and during the perimenopause when oestrogen levels are fluctuating and can be made worse by menopause hormone therapy.
The more modern pills with body identical oestrogens (Zoely, Qlaira and Next Stellis) may be a better option during the perimenopause and our doctors at Elara can help you to select the most appropriate pill.

Progesterone Only Pills
There is now an excellent progesterone only pill Slinda which is a great alternative for those women unable to have the combined oral contraceptive pill.
It can also be used off licence as the progestogen component of menopause hormone therapy and may be very useful in the perimenopause. It can also be used in endometriosis sometimes in conjunction with a Mirena IUCD.
Slinda offers flexibility for women who cannot take oestrogen-containing contraceptives and can serve multiple purposes including contraception, perimenopause management, and endometriosis treatment.

- Women with migraines with aura
- Perimenopause symptom management
- Endometriosis management
Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC)
These are a great option for 'fit and forget' contraception and our doctors can discuss these options with you that include Implanon, Mirena and Kyleena.
Mirena can be used for 5 years as the progestogen component of menopause hormone therapy and for 8 years solely as a contraceptive and is also a great option in endometriosis management or for the management of heavy menstrual bleeding.
LARC Options:
- Implanon: Small rod inserted under the skin of the upper arm, effective for 3 years
- Mirena: Hormonal IUD effective for 5-8 years depending on use
- Kyleena: Smaller hormonal IUD, effective for 5 years
