The Workplace Impact of Menopause
Menopause (final menstrual period) most commonly occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 years. However, perimenopause, the hormonal transition leading up to menopause, may begin up to 10 years earlier and sometimes from the mid 30s. Symptoms may persist for some women into their 60s.
This means a significant proportion of the workforce, typically women aged 35 to 65 years, may be managing hormonal symptoms while at work.
Common Symptoms Include
• Concentration difficulties (brain fog)
• Heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding
• Urinary urgency and frequency
• Fatigue due to sleep disturbance
• Anxiety, irritability and mood changes
• Hot flushes and night sweats
These symptoms are not minor
They can affect confidence, cognitive performance, leadership functioning, attendance, productivity and workforce retention.
Many women begin to doubt their ability to perform their role, particularly in leadership positions. Some reduce working hours, decline promotions, or leave the workforce entirely.

• Improves staff retention
• Protects leadership capability
