Women’s Health Week: Menopause in the Workplace

Table Of Contents

As part of Women’s Health Week, the Elara team was pleased to deliver our inaugural Understanding Menopause workplace seminar for a local organisation.

Menopause is a natural stage of life, but the symptoms can sometimes have a significant impact on day-to-day life, including at work. Our seminar aimed to provide practical, evidence-based information to help employees and managers better understand menopause and support women through this transition.

We discussed:

  • The definition of perimenopause and menopause and when they can occur
  • Common symptoms and how they may affect wellbeing, confidence and work
  • Treatment options, including non-hormonal approaches
  • Practical workplace strategies to help manage troublesome symptoms such as hot flushes
  • How employees can access support and make reasonable adjustments to improve their experience at work

Research has highlighted that menopause can have a real impact in the workplace. A 2021 study found that 83% of women experiencing menopause reported that it affected them at work, yet only 70% felt comfortable talking to their manager about it.

Creating a workplace where menopause can be discussed openly and respectfully can make a meaningful difference. Managers who feel comfortable having these conversations are better placed to support their employees, helping to promote wellbeing, confidence, productivity and motivation.
